Preventing Cancer in Your Online Business

I read an article in the Family Circle magazine entitled “Cancer-Proof Your Body” that had some very good advice. It gave six tips that you can implement into your daily life to help fight off this disease before it strikes you. As a recap, this is what they had to say, and then a comparison of that implemented into a business sense.

  1. One of the most important things you can do to say cancer free is to remain lean throughout your life. The article said that except for pregnancy, any weight gain after age 18 is mostly fat! If you strive for your high school weight and were overweight at that time, you would want to get under that weight. Excess body fat produces unhealthy hormone levels and releases inflammatory proteins into the bloodstream that can influence cell growth, upping the risk of cancer in several bodily organs. It is particularly dangerous to gain weight after menopause. And for every 11 pounds added on, risk of breast cancer increases by about ten percent. To monitor your calories, pay close attention to those in what you drink. A major contributor to weight gain is sugary sodas and juice flavored drinks. The brain doesn’t monitor the full feeling with liquids like it does bulky foods, so it is easy to consume too many calories in drinks.
  2. Strengthen the immune system, lower body fat, and regulate hormone levels by staying active. Maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of several kinds of cancer with regular exercise. An increase in physical activity is needed around age 40 or you will inevitably gain weight. If an exercise program doesn’t appeal to you, at least take a daily walk.
  3. Try to get the whole family eating healthy foods. When filling your plate, 2/3 of it should be plant-based and 1/3 red meat, chicken or fish. Dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, Swiss chard, bok choy and romaine lettuce are great choices. Other good suggestions are broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts, garlic, fresh fruits, and whole grains. You can eat more of these (and their cancer-fighting nutrients) without gaining weight because they are low in calorie density.
  4. Cancer risks rise with the consumption of processed meats such as ham, bacon, sausage, bratwurst, pastrami, salami, hot dogs, and pepperoni. When meat is smoked, cured, salted, or when nitrates are added, carcinogens can form. Limit red meat like beef, pork, and lamb to 18 ounces per week. Better options are fish and chicken. It is best to roast, bake, or crock pot any type of meat. A chemical can form on the surface of the meat that may pose a cancer risk to that which is fried, grilled, barbecued, or broiled and cooked to 400 degrees or more, or over a direct flame.
  5. Limit alcohol to one daily drink, or preferably don’t drink at all. A study found that women who drank one glass of wine every day increased their risk of breast cancer by 9 percent. Alcohol not only increases breast cancer risk, but also mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver and colon cancer. And the more you drink, the greater the risk. Alcohol has a negative influence on hormone levels. It acts as a solvent which enhances the penetration of carcinogens into cells, which might fuel the cancer process.
  6. Drink more milk! The calcium and Vitamin D in this liquid not only helps ward off bone-thinning osteoporosis, but it helps reduce risk of all cancers by a whopping 60 percent. A daily 800IU dose of Vitamin D and 1200 mg of calcium is recommended for women age 19 to 50. That increases to 1,000IU of Vitamin D and 1,500 mg of calcium per day for women age 51 to 70. An 8 ounce glass of milk is typically fortified with 100IU of Vitamin D.

This article had some very useful information we should all apply to our lives to help ward off cancer. I thought it was interesting that I can apply these same six principles to running my online business by changing the title and some words. Hopefully this will help others who have an online business, realizing failure is a cancer to business.

Preventing Failure

  1. Don’t be “overweight” with negative thoughts.
  2. "Exercise" and “Strengthen” your business with a positive attitude.
  3. “Teamwork” for best results.
  4. Remember GIGO – Garbage In Garbage Out. Build a defense against negative thoughts.
  5. Limit doubting thoughts, but preferably don’t allow them at all.
  6. Read and listen to more positive books and audio. Apply GIGO in the positive aspect: Good In Good Out.

So whether you are preventing cancer that can ruin your body or preventing failure of your online business, give these tips a try. We may be surprised at the results.

Differences in Online Businesses

Why are there so many options for online businesses today? How do you know who to trust? How do you know the business is not a scam?

People are turning to the Internet to build a business nowadays so they can work from home. Many are doing this as a part-time job - striving to either supplement or replace their regular income. There are also many stay-at-home moms or dads working online to help out financially from home. A person needs to research a business before becoming involved with it to make sure it is legitimate and not a scam. One must be very careful when researching a business to make sure the person(s) with a complaint about it doesn't just have an axe to grind. That person may not have been dedicated enough to succeed, so they blame it on that business instead.

Some businesses require more of an investment than others. While some have a minimal investment, others have a higher investment. But the payback on that investment is also a big difference in comparison. It may take sponsoring and growing your organization to one thousand people with one company to have the same payback with one single sponsoring act in another program. If you are needing a quicker payback, this is one thing to compare closely.

Another difference in businesses can be the support and training offered. There should be a support system for the business with something like a back office that you can access 24/7/365. It is also a big plus if you have a team that will help train you in your venture. Will they answer your calls and emails? Do they have a weekly training you can attend either by phone or online webinar? Are they going to charge you for these trainings or let you attend for free? Does the company itself have a training program?

Hopefully the person or company is not using enticement to try and get you lured in. Some people give screen shots of their income log of payments from their company. Others show them opening Fed-Ex packages filled with stacks of cash or enormous checks. It's just like with Hollywood - anything is possible. Those movies can be set up ahead of time, even if they say they aren't. Enticement is actually against the law. So if people are using these tactics, please beware. What is produced for income by one person is not a guarantee for another person. It totally depends on you and what you are willing to invest in time.

One thing you can do is perform a Google search on the company and the person offering to sponsor you. When searching a person, there may be more than one person by that name. And that is okay if you can't tell which one it is in particular - just so long as you can clarify that it's not the one wanted for murder, or at least something you wouldn't want involved in.

Don't fall for the get-rich-quick schemes. If companies or people are proclaiming this, please use caution. Building a business takes time and effort. Some portray that all you have to do is perform a minute amount of work and then just set back and watch the dollars roll in. Only with very experienced marketers or online gurus is this likely to maybe happen.

I hope I have given some food for thought here for searching for an online business. Beware of those scammers who will usually prey on the sick, disabled, elderly, stay-at-home moms, low or no income families, and those without higher education. Don't just jump in to something with both feet without using caution and doing some research first. Do your due diligence and check it all out before investing your time, effort, and money. If it doesn't meet your requirements, look elsewhere till you can find one that does. And remember gut feelings are pretty accurate.
